Is this normal behavior?

I am fairly new to this couch-surfing game.
If i stay at a friends house I normally bring a bottle of whine or something.
To appreciate them having me.
But some of these strangers who describe themeself "open minded, love meeting new people, see new culture".
Not bringing anything, not initiating any conversation, not looking around, not asking me for any advice about what to do.. Have i been unlucky?

I hosted quite a few people from AirBnB, over all I do feel these people have been friendlier and more sociable adjusted.

Maybe this one is on me, maybe people staying for free feel like they need to stay on the down low, hiding, not really engaging, which is really missing the point of what cs should be all about.
