I've just had another major epiphany. The people who say "no politics" don't have any merit to stand on.

You're basically saying something that they cannot argue with so they get mad about it and try to misdirect you from what your saying. They do usually care about you, because the no politics phrase usually comes out in a group of 3 parties or more.

They might like you for a variety of reasons, have you cared and provided for them?
