Can we refuse?

I work in long term care, we have a resident who has become very aggressive, hitting, biting, kicking staff. Everyone is at their wits end. The resident is a total 1:1 the whole shift. Staff has gotten minorly injured but are afraid to work with the resident now. Do we have rights to refuse care when we, ourselves, feel like we could get hurt or even reported to state if something goes wrong? Is there anything we can we do?
