Era Transitions are interesting, but it feels like it walks back SO MUCH of what I've done

I'm trying to enjoy Civ7, and honestly, I think that a lot of these changes are interesting, some more than others, and interesting is not always a good thing. But holy hell, transitioning from one era to another just feels like it ruined my use of Influence! I spent Influence to befriend and become the Suzerain of two Villages.

Oh, now they're gone, completely gone, do I still have the Suzerain bonuses that I picked? I have no clue, where would that information live? Hell if I know. So that's 1k Influence gone (because I'm on Marathon), cool.

Oh, and now my Ally is just my friend? And because I spent my Influence going for some Endeavors, that are now gone, I have no Influence to try and build that back up? Alright, well that's stellar, I've wasted all my Influence, my City States are gone, and great, it plopped FOUR brand spanking new hostile Villages around me!

Well then I guess my army will go on tour and wipe them out, huh? Oh, my army got dispersed between all of my cities. No wait... Villages because they decided to downgrade.

Investing in anything feels like a waste, I'm glad I didn't have more than 6 units so that they would have just peaced out. Building up my empire only to watch it get kneecapped in the new era feels bad.

I want to like this, the new district stuff is interesting, I like Villages as a concept (for the most part), but I don't know how much I want to play it when the game will just two times a game bump my progress back down.
