What happened to Anish Giri?

I recall him being a an excellent player and very strong tactically and theoretically. Suddenly in the last 2-3 years he seems to have vanished. No wins, no qualification to candidates. I get he is aging but his mediocrity is slightly hard to digest given he was almost a 2800 player in his career!
