Is this seasoning or rust? Weird uneven seasoning?
This sub got me all inspired to actually clean and season my cast iron pans. I washed this pan with dishsoap using chainmail. The seasoning up the pan actually seemed to hold up and I spent the majority of the time scraping buildup from the bottom and outsides.
When I pulled the pan out of the oven post seasoning, it looked really uneven in the shine levels. The shiniest part scraped up really easily and looked like rust on the pan.
Did I scrape up seasoning? Also, I'm wondering if I should just go for the yellow cap and vinegar method for this pan, because aside from the seasoning question, there is still some buildup on the bottom/outside of the pan. The last 2 pictures show the buildup I started with.
