Rain Sensing Wipers Are Still Awful

Rain sensing wipers have been around since at least the 1990s and it seems to me they've not managed to get any better. I worked in the car business from 2006 to 2013 and experienced rain-sensing wipers from various manufacturers, none of them worth the trouble they cause and my 2021 Mazda CX-5 is barely any better. Light mist? Better throw on the high speed wipers. Heavy rain? Nah. No wipers for you.

I'm grateful I can disable them on my car but my mom's 2019 MDX offers no such consolation prize. Is there anybody out there who actually finds rain-sensing wipers useful or even functional?
