Can you negotiate the broker fee?

I am looking at taking over an existing lease for a 1 bdrm condo. The fee is 80% of the monthly cost of the current lease. It seems like a steep cost for what is essentially an application fee (I connected with the current tenant and she gave me a house tour, not the broker).

I am thinking of emailing the broker and asking if there is wiggle room on the broker fee. Has anyone had success before?
