Horror book recommendation? Plus a lil rant about “disturbing” books

So I have been reading books since I first learned how to read but I never delved into horror or disturbing genres, and recently I stumbled across someone mentioning a good disturbing book series and I was intrigued.

The issue was that it was just bad. Pacing was horrible, characters were horribly written, conversations made no sense, and it was just the same thing over and over again. Granted the materials in the book were disturbing (it was literally just 1000 pages of gore) but still boring. I found some others and same thing, or, they just weren’t disturbing? I was genuinely a little shocked, this is what some people were saying “wasn’t for the faint of heart?” I’ve literally read worse things in warrior cats. Not to mention half the time there’s too many racist/pro life/xenophobic undertones for me to be able to entrench myself in the book and instead I’m thinking about how likely it is the author has a “WW2” memorial room in his moms basement.

Does anyone have really disturbing works that are actually written well? Preferably not with a sociopathic Mary sue and/or something a divorced husband clearly wrote as some weird kind of revenge porn against his wife? I’ll literally even take fanfiction I dont care.
