Is butterfly guard only an option if your opp is in a specific top position, or can you set-up/force butterfly guard?

Obviously it involves getting into your partners inner hip space. If they are standing or trying to outside pass, but you want to train butterfly guard (or maybe it’s your A game), would you just do something else until the opportunity presents itself to play it?

Or do you try to force your opponent in a position where you can play it? (Like kneeling or combat base)

If the answer is yes to the later, what steps do you take to force it?
