On the topic of Jokic MVP narratives: Luka Should have Won MVP last year.
Looking at the thread from yesterday about Jokic not being favored for MVP this year, I wanted the opportunity to bitch about my pet MVP thought.
Luka was better than both Jokic and Shai last year and the fact that he got 3rd place in the voting is an absolute joke.
Voters were annoyed that they got convinced to vote for Embiid the year before and then Embiid got outplayed by Harden in the playoffs and Jokic hard carried his team all the way to the chip. They were also terrified to vote for Luka cause he missed the playoffs the year before and his team sucked until trading for PJ washington and Gafford.
Luka is barely not Jokic level in offensive impact because Jokic is a 7 foot freak of nature but it's close and I think the defense somehow favors Luka.
I don't care what you say, Jokic is a bottom 5 defensive center in the league. I don't care about his steals and blocks, I don't care about his ability to see the game, I don't care, he gives up a lot of points. and yes, he gets it wayyyyy back on the offensive side. but he is a horrid defender at the most important position in basketball.
Luka sucks on defense too, but its much easier to hide a bad defensive wing than a Center. You can see what happened in the playoffs last year, Jokic lets a lot of rim pressure through to such an extent that can be punished by certain players and teams.
Luka had an insane season last year, and im not sure why we all decided that 33 points and 9 assists is worse than 26 and 9 because of efficiency
On this year, it's Jokic, but I think Giannis has an argument if the bucks catch the knicks. The Shai stuff makes sense and I actually quite like him as a player, but I think all 3 of the euros just put too much rim pressure and are much better at passing that the offensive impact can't be compared. In terms of defense, Shai isn't some insane level defender, he's often the 3rd or 4th best defender on the floor for his team.
That is all.
