Gorilla tape saved the day
While participating in the Tour de Big Bear this year, my rear tubeless tire blew out badly after I failed to dodge the rock that the two riders in front of me had just shifted left to reveal. My nearly new GP5000 STR 30mm was now sporting a 15mm sidewall slice.
I've always kept a cigarette-sized micro roll of Gorilla tape in my saddle bag despite never having needed to use it before, so I placed a piece over the hole before putting a tube in. To the amazement of myself and the volunteer assisting, it held pressure despite the anxiety-inducing bulge out the side.
I hopped back on and completed the remaining 35 miles including 2 winding descents reaching 40+ mph.
Thank you Gorilla tape, you will always have a spot in my saddlebag!
