Diaper change meltdowns

Is this a developmental thing I've never heard of? Does anyone else's kid have a total meltdown during diaper changes? Mine just started doing this at about 9 months -- like, if he can't roll away and escape, he will start bawling.

Also, for those whose kid did this and grew out of it, when did it stop? It's funny but also kind of sucks.
