Newborn crying during tummy time - should I stop?

Midwives in the hospital advised us to do start with tummy time from right after birth - 10 minutes per session, up to 60 minutes per day.

Our newborn is now just over a week old, and quite visibly hates it. Starts crying very soon after being put on her tummy. At the same time, she's doing a great job wiggling around & strenghtening her muscles. In fact, she even managed to turn from front to back very occassionally already. I also feel like her ability to hold up her legs/hips, turn her head etc. has slightly improved since we started. So while she really hates it, it does seem to be working very well for her physical development.

Now I'm in a dilemma.

Should I stop doing this, and do a "milder" version of tummy time with her (e.g. inclined on my body - she's much happier with that, but it looks like much much less of a workout)?

Or should we continue and just let her cry for the 10 minutes each session? I wonder if this could create permanent negative assocations for her or anything like that. Then again, if I stopped doing anything that makes her cry, she'd still be wearing her very first diaper, without any change of clothes, and without ever having been washed, so part of me feels like they just have to brave it for certain things..

I'd be particularly curious if there's any scientific / non-anecdotal evidence on what's best to do here.
