Using only concealer

How do people only use concealer and make it look good is it just their skin? I like doing eyeliner and lashes and stuff but i still want to cover my eyebags and areas and not do a full face but i feel like it only ends up looking weird with just concealer. does anyone have any tips on how to make it look better?
