2nd grade coaches complaining about helpside man in a “man to man” league. Why are refs agreeing?
We play helpside. We aren’t playing zone. We’re simply teaching the players to stay between their man and the basket while keeping your eye on the ball. Our players are doing so well at it that other coaches have started complaining to the refs that we are playing zone.
For example, point guard on the opposing team blew by our guy, but another player (who was playing helpside) stepped in and blocked the shot.
The other coaches went crazy, claiming we have been “playing zone defense all year.” That’s not what we are doing.
Is there any solution? Because the refs seem to be siding with the coaches who complain about it (yet never correct our kids when the coaches aren’t complaining).
Thanks.
