Firetooth vs Gesen

Can someone calculate to me the reason why Gesen is better than Firetooth? I keep hearing that on this sub, but when I calculated the damage and extra apr from Gesen it still came up short compared to Firetooth, so I must've simply done my math wrong. Would someone be able to talk me through it so I can understand?
