Imoen dual class bg1

Isn't it possible to max out imoens open locks and find traps, dual class to mage and still reach level 9 and regain your thieving levels? Is there a specific route you could take to make it so you won't need a second thief to fill in the inactive levels? Like can you avoid all areas with locks and traps during your inactive levels and save them for when your thief levels come back? Because obviously you could save the worst like durlags tower for later, but I don't know if you could have your abilities unlocked by the cloakwood section.
