Just play the damn game.
I just downloaded Avowed on a whim and I gotta say, it grabbed my attention immediately. I've seen so many people criticizing the game due to "wokeness" (I know these are just grifters but people still take them seriously)as if fantasy media hasn't been an inclusive medium since its inception.
Not saying people can't critique the game but if pronouns really upset you that much, you need therapy.
This game is one of the most compelling and rewarding games I've played in a long time. I appreciate that the game respects my time as a 28 year old dude with a full time job.
The world is carefully crafted and the zones all feel unique and satisfying to explore. Nothing feels like bloat (so far).
Character abilities and unlocks all have purpose and feel impactful; not just generic stat buffs.
The characters are compelling and genuinely interesting! Maybe my bar is low, but I've played a lot of well revered RPGs where the characters don't really connect with me, but this game does a great job of getting me attached to characters.
I'm not saying this game is perfect. It just seems like in this day and age, games that aren't the "biggest" are just doomed to fall through the cracks. I miss the days of double-A games on PS2 where there may be some jank, but there's also a hell of a lot of character.
If you're reading this and you don't know what to expect from this game and think it's DOA, please just give it a shot. If you don't like it after a few hours then that's totally fair. I just genuinely think this game is getting wrapped up in a lot of unfair criticism when it's only been out for like a week at this point.
