Picking up uniques later?

Can we go back to old zones once our gear is higher quality to ultimately get those old uniques (if not already picked up) at a higher quality? I'm still in Dreamshore and there is a unique I have intentionally not picked up in hopes I can come back later to get it at higher tier...
