What is it like being a AME in canada?

Hi, I'd like to ask any ame's about the career. Is it a good career? Im in my final year of high school and i just recently applied to post secondary, I have a passion for aviation and i just find it interesting to work on planes. I also like to work with tools and just tear apart something and bring it back to normal. All those aside i have a question, after finishing the program what do you have to do? I've done multiple research but im confused, do i have to be an apprentice first and get licensed after that? Would there be any tips you guys could give? Thanks in advance( ´∀｀ )b
