Why cant logical laws be true?

I'm asking this because I see people in this subreddit talk about the laws of logic and saying that the laws or systems don't have truth value, but instead they are either complete or not self-contradictory. Im a little confused by this. Can't we say a statement like A=A is true because it's just definitionally true?

Also, a side question, but why should we value laws or systems that aren't contradictory? Doesnt that assume non-contradiction is a logical law, and therefore we're assuming a logical law? Sorry if I've misunderstood something.
