I spent my whole life thinking there was something wrong with me - Has your health anxiety been reduced/eliminated through ADHD treatment and meds??

TLDR: Have you always thought something was wrong with you your entire life, only to realize you (just???) had ADHD?

I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD at the beginning of the year. Prior to that I had historically been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, although I never really found much relief from medications for those diagnoses.

I had a lot of symptoms which could personally be indirectly explained by my own self diagnosis of OCD, anxiety(with a focus esp on health), and leaning towards autism.

A huge part of my experience was health anxiety including me hyper fixating over so many symptoms, which I now realize are likely symptoms of high stress, exhaustion from masking, pushing myself to complete degrees, tasks, work projects which couldn’t have been accomplished at the time w/o the concentrated/fabricated anxiety to do so. I always managed to make it work with the assistance of extensions allowing me to receive deans list/honour roll, bursaries & scholarships.

I quit smoking last year and that reduced/eliminated my ability to cope. I ended up quitting my high stress job before receiving my diagnosis and now fighting with insurance over medical leave before receiving my diagnosis and navigating the weight of that on my personal life.

Will this ever end? (Health anxiety) Medication has helped substantially. I’ve been adjusting my meds and working through so many things. Anxiety has nearly disappeared, and I will be starting therapy later this week.

  • do you still experience health anxiety as much once dx and medicated ??
