Best controllers for NES/SNES/N64?

So I'm largely clueless about modding, but a buddy has offered to Homebrew my old Wii Family Edition. Since I don't have the GC controller ports, what controllers would you guys recommend?

I plan to use it mostly for the 3 consoless listed above, but might dip into some GC games if I find ones I'm interested in. My best option right now seems to be the classic pro controllers that plug into the Wiimote. I've also seen the 4 port USB adapters for GC controllers, but didn't know if they work with the wii/ emulators.

What recommendations do you guys have for me?
