I just want to see active champions man…

I’d like to know how you feel about it but for me, championships do matter, and when someone is a champion, it is their time to shine, be showcased and make their mark.

Of course, a story can be great without one, but it really is special when a title holder is making their way to the ring to face their challenger; who actually poses a threat, in a match or a longer promo battle.

These days, champs are mostly seen in 30s backstage segments or 1 minute interviews, sitting in attendance or brawling which typically does nothing for character or story developement.

The biggest issue I currently have is the treatment of my beloved midcard US and IC championships. I view both Shinsuke and Bron as really great, but they don’t let them do anything. It’s been more than 100 days since Bron got the title back, in which he had 4 televised matches, made fun of Kaiser once and called Sheamus old a couple of times.

It’s going to be 70 days for Shin, in which he had one match on Smackdown, one nowhere leading promo and last week he walked around menacingly. Lyra Valkyria will have her first TV match, four weeks after winning the title, no promo or promo package, nothing. War Raiders aren’t doing anything, neither is Gunther. The only champs treated properly are Chelsea Green and In some capacity DIY (Pretty Deadly story) and Bianca & Naomi (regular matches).

The Rhodes vs Owens feud was 90% carried by Kevin, lets be honest. He was the one wrestling and cutting interesting promos, Cody had about one, the rest of the time he just came out to brawl repetitively.

In light of live events being reduced which I’m all for, I’d honestly expect more tv time and good storytelling for and more importantly from our champions.

What do you think and have you noticed this too?
