Update: Broken AC belt didn't kill my engine after all!
Last week I posted a thread where I was driving to work in my 2009 WRX hatchback and my AC compressor seized, snapping the AC belt, which whipped into the timing belt cover and caused the timing belt to slip a few teeth. It sounded terrible at idle and I had it towed thinking it was DOA. Initially they said that the belt slipped, but the tech hand rotated the engine and didn't think there was any internal damage.
Just got word that they replaced the timing belt and it fired right up, running strong! So relieved that it wasn't fatal. Once I get the AC compressor replaced it should be good to go for a while.
