Vivo X200 Pro Impression
so I've been using Vivo X200 Pro for the last 4 days and it is my first Vivo phone ever and I've been buying like 5-10 phones each years for 15+ years now but for some reason I never got a chance to try Vivo.
I am kinda display nerd so my impressions will be mostly on Display, if I be more specific how watching content on Vivo X200 Pro feels like and I am very picky about phone smoothness so what many call a smooth or buttery smooth, I might call it smooth enough.
Display: I love how the display looks and bezels feels symmetrical, from front OnePlus 13 and Vivo X200 Pro looks almost the same IMO, I am coming to Vivo from Pixel 9 Pro XL, S24 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max so in terms of outdoor its bright but other 3 feels brighter in direct sunlight.
How about watching Netflix HDR content or Prime Video? if scenes are bright you going to enjoy this phone very much but if scenes are dark then video processing on Vivo X200 Pro fells apart. I can't focus on content if quality and video processing is great so Vivo X200 Pro bothers me a lot in dark scenes and for this test I used The Recruit Season 2 which really shows how good or worse experience you can have. gradients were smooth like you are watching 8bit content.
In my brief testing with OnePlus 13 (and I had OnePlus 12), OnePlus is way ahead in terms of video processing especially when watching HDR content and content have challenging scenes. iPhone 13/14 Pro Max are perfect for watching HDR content but iPhone 15/16 Pro Max makes some dark scenes worse(because they have high HDR brightness so I think they didn't adjust their HDR video processing for brighter displays). BTW in case you are wondering S24 Ultra is worst when it comes to dark scenes, thought S24 Ultra issue is bit different and it makes skin colors weird and cartoonish and dark scene have brownish hue or something. BTW Pixel is least bright in HDR when watching content even though on Paper it's one of the brightest in HDR.
so yes daily usage and outdoor visibility is pretty great(could be better) but watching content is bit let down for me. as for that iPhone 13/14 Pro Max and OnePlus 12/13 are benchmarks for me. iPhone certainly a bit better (but not 15/16 Pro Max)
Haptics: Well haptics are average, sometimes it feels good and sometimes it feels hollow and I think its depends on how quiet the room is.
Smoothness: BTW I have model with software version ending with W20 and it runs most of the app at 120Hz and only exception so far is YouTube and that also runs at 120Hz but if video is playing then it switches to 60 or 72Hz depending on content if content is 30/60 FPS then display will run at 60Hz and if content is 24FPS then display will run at 72, so that instance makes the phone sluggish and so far only place where I've noticed this is YouTube. Chrome, X, WhatsApp all run great and at 120Hz.
This phone is smooth but occasionally I see extreme stutter for like a 500ms, when scrolling X app feels extremely slow and then some video or image will come and phone stutters hard.
Speakers: I don't have much thoughts on this, but so far I've enjoyed watching YouTube videos and sounds felt fuller to me though I can't talk about Music as I've not played any. but I don't have any complaints about the speakers.
Build: Phone feels hefty and solid and it started to grow on me now, though after 2 days my buttons started to act weird and they don't feel tactile, they are sometimes feels hard to press like something is inside. also people who saw X200 Pro the first time, they didn't like the camera shape and how big it is. but they did like the image quality and didn't like selfie camera at all.
Camera: honestly I'm not impressed, most probably because I've certain preference for Pixel image processing and I only take people photos and skins don't look great or as detailed on X200 Pro as it on Pixel phones. I've had OPPO Find X7 Ultra and it has its own style as well but that camera shutter speed was better IMO, maybe my impressions changes over time but let's see.
Software: so initially software looks weird and everything is small (I kept the default settings so far) but now it feels in some ways more like Pixel for instance the notifications works more closely like Pixel than any OnePlus, OPPO or Xiaomi phones and I didn't like those OEMs in how they handle the Lock Screen notifications. so that is good on Vivo.
I would like an option to force apps to run at 120Hz like YouTube. but it is missing few features like clipboard like Pixel or OnePlus, don't like how one handed is called or how AOD had limited apps.
if I be honest I am less annoyed by Vivo software compared to Xiaomi, OnePlus or OPPO.
leaving what I want from my phones
Awesome Netflix/Prime Video content watching experience
Extremely smooth and consistent UI
Satisfying haptics
Great speakers
Camera is 1 area where I can make compromise.
Most probably my next phone will be OnePlus 13 and but until then I'll keep using Vivo X200 Pro as it takes 2 weeks for any phone to grow on me and Vivo so far have great start IMO even certain things needs improvements.
