Lawyer requesting an additional $750 to file AP expedite request?

Hi all,

Thank you for the information and support that this community provides.

My wife (USC) and I filed for I-130/I-485/I-765 (EAD)/I-131 (AP) with the help of a lawyer (PD Feb 28, 2023), who charged us $5000 for the whole process, including attending a potential Field Office interview with us if needed. I know a lot of people here have done it without the need of a lawyer but we just wanted to go the "safe" route and thought in the big scheme of things, we can fortunately afford it.

I received my I-765 (EAD) as a standalone (took 100 days since filing), and have asked our lawyer about placing and expedited request for the I-131 (AP), since I need to travel for work and my employer has written a letter to back the request stating that my inability to travel can cause loss of jobs in the US if I can't travel internationally to secure new clients for the company.

My lawyer says that they can file a request to expedite the I-131 but would charge me $750 for that.

My question to those who've hired lawyers in the past: is it common for them to request extra fees for stuff like this? I know you might think "If you can pay $5000, you can pay an extra $750", but personally I think it's one thing to come in with eyes wide open knowing what I'm going to be charged, and a different thing is to start feeling nickel-and-dimed for things that I wasn't expecting.

I also know I can just say "no, thank you", or file the expedited request on my own, but I'd like to know if in your experience lawyers tend to charge extra for this kind of stuff.
