International travel hesitation

I guess I am looking to "hack" my anxiety about international travel right now. I wanted to travel to a few countries (beautiful Canada is one of the places on my list) soon but am hesitant that I will not be welcome as I am a US citizen. A few friends have cancelled trips because of the political tension Am I overthinking this? I always try to blend in if possible when traveling. Thank you for any insights.
