Bone on bone in ankle

I (46F) have flat feet and have had ankle pain for probably 8 years. 5 years ago I sprained my left ankle and since then I’ve had progressively worse pain in that ankle until I finally saw a new podiatrist a couple weeks ago. He did X-rays and I have stage 4, bone on bone arthritis in my left ankle.

I’ve been kinda depressed since I got the news. I’m a Girl Scout leader and went to a wilderness Girl Scout camp this past weekend for volunteer training and had to walk on rocks and inclines and I was in extreme pain, even with a steroid shot a week earlier, insoles, supportive hiking boots, meloxicam and voltaren. It was honestly depressing because most of the cabins at the camp are now not easily accessible to me, and I had to skip the group hike which means it will limit the activities I can do with my scouts.

I’m going back for a second steroid shot in two weeks, but is there anything else I should be doing to manage the pain? When I don’t walk much it doesn’t hurt as much but being fully sedentary is not how I want to live the next few decades of my life. My Dr did say I could get the fusion surgery but it doesn’t seem like a great solution? But I’m curious to hear what y’all’s experiences have been. All advice is requested, thank you!
