Immigration to Thailand as an LGBTQ+ person
Hello everyone!
I'm not sure if this is the right spot to ask; but I thought I'd give it a go incase anyone has any recommendations for me.
I'm 17, living in a red state in the United States. I grew up in the countryside, and have experienced mass panic events (take that as you will) and have also been targeted for my identity after being outed. I know I want to leave. No, it's not because I have an issue with being out publicly, as I don't disclose any aspect of my identity with anyone I'm not *extremely* close with. I'm not hear to fear-monger or to speak on the affects of my country's laws, as they have affected everyone differently, but I have noticed the shift, and it is increasingly getting more frightening.
All that aside, what is Thailand like for gay and transgender people? I know I would move there for college, and I would have to find pet friendly accommodation for my cat. Originally, I had considered South Korea, as Korean is the only other language, apart from English, I can speak (not fluent), but I know there is a lot more obstacles there regarding being queer. It's a place I would like to visit, but not live in. I'm happy to start learning Thai as well!
It is becoming significantly difficult to migrate to progressive countries like Canada, due to our trade relationship, and I know Thailand isn't exactly the most progressive place, but it's relatively safe and I know there are a good deal of Koreans living there, so it would be nice to still be able to use all 3 languages.
Incase it's relevant, I am a surfer and an artist. I would love to attend university near the coast if possible. If I were to get a BFA, is it valid in other countries? Would I have a hard time finding work? Would I have a hard time accessing healthcare? Thank you so much for any help or tips!!
edit: i would be moving as an adult, at LEAST 18. i know the basics, some are just clarifying questions, and me being autistic and not knowing when to stop overexplaining. my cat is a non-negotiable. i can ask my mom if theres anything i need an adult for, as the legal adult is 20 in Thailand. only asked the basics for possible redirection regarding university and visa's. thanks!
