My kindergarten student hit me
As the title suggests, I teach kindergarten, and a student hit me for the second time in two weeks. Today, he kept hopping out of his seat while he was supposed to be doing his work, so as a consequence, I removed his name from our incentive chart. He said, "You better add my name back right now," and I told him no because he needs to complete his work and that’s not the proper way to speak to his teacher.
He then threatened, “You better add my name back or I’m going to get upset,” but I still said no. This time, he completely lost it, ran up to me, and started punching and slapping my legs while screaming and crying. I told him to stop, but he kept hitting me until I raised my voice.
He then said he was going to slap me in the face and reached his hand up to do it, but I managed to stop his hand before it reached my face.
I called his mom right away, and she came to the classroom to handle the situation. However, now some of the other teachers are oddly making jokes about me being hit by a student. I’m just so frustrated and feel unsupported at this school.
I just need some support on next steps to take in this situation. Has anyone ever experienced this ?
