Seeking Guidance

I test drove the Topline 1.0 MT today. It was during rush hours and peak traffic-I noticed that the motor was making not much but noticeable noise. Also, the manual stick seemed stiff as compared to other vehicles I have driven. Also, the brakes squeaked a bit, when I checked with the sales guy- he mentioned that it was just due to rain and would go away. Are these very common?
