my switch doesn’t physically detect (and therefore doesn’t charge) my joycons. what could i do?

ive checked with another friend’s switch and confirmed that my joycons are fine, its just my switch itself that’s the issue. i saw some people say to knock off a diode (when the fan doesn’t work, somehow it also make my joycons not charge) but my fan does work. i’m not sure what else could be the issue, does anyone have any ideas?
