Hooknreel stl
A little bit ago I asked this sub for seafood boil recommendations and someone mentioned hooknreel and after looking at the menu two of my friends and I decided to check it out. We got a small boil with a pound of crawfish($18) half a pound of scallops($17) potatoes sausage and broccoli ($14 for all three extras). It was served in a bag(honestly confused me but I wasn’t too caught up on it) and we dumped it on the tray and got like 4 scallops and maybe 3 pieces of broccoli. The place was obviously an old Applebees and that’s the best way to describe the place, the Applebees of seafood boil. Everything tasted pretty good in all honesty the spice was there and everything was seasoned well. The downfall was the service, after serving the food we saw our waiter one time towards the end of our meal and had to ask specifically for refills despite having 3 empty cups on the end of the table, other customers had to call for the waiter from across the restaurant for service, the table beside us said excuse me multiple times to be ignored, that all could be excused should it be busy but it definitely was not and the server was in the back the entire meal. When observing our check 1. It was $70 for honesty not too much food but that doesn’t concern me too much given seafood boil in the Midwest is a niche and I’d expect a premium but more concerning 2. For 3 people on a relatively low tab there was an automatic 10% gratuity, given the low quality of service and nowhere in the restaurant or website warning us of the auto gratuity we did not tip any more. Honestly I was disappointed and given the low first experience we will not be returning. Sad to say because I can only eat chicken and seafood so I felt this would be my spot.
