This game isn't worth 70$
Hey guys, this is me just venting.
If we put aside our love for Dragon Ball and our nostalgia for BT3, there are serious issues with this game.
Foremost:
- Communication is key – whether it’s at work, with family, or your loved ones. The fact that they don’t have people handling basic things like patch notes or server issues for one of Bandai Namco's most popular games ever is a direct lack of respect towards the player base.
- Resetting progression/save to 0/beggining is still not fixed for some players, and they can’t unlock characters.
- The fact that Xbox players can’t play online, after paying 70 dollars is, again, a lack of respect toward the player base.
- Crossplay – games without crossplay die faster. The fact that I can’t play splitscreen on more than one map unless I mod (PC only), or that I can’t play online on Xbox, and I can’t even play with my PS5 friend while on PC, is unacceptable.
- Ranked play – let’s ignore the balance issues for now, but the fact that you can rage quit without losing points, or win if your opponent rage quits and you don't get points, is horrible. Is it really okay for me to spend time and get nothing from it?
- Casual online play – it has no proper quick play like ranked. Why do I have to wait in lobbies and watch other players play?
- Custom Episodes – you can’t tell me implementing a search function was difficult. Expecting players to scroll through 2,000 lines is terrible. Not giving us the ability to write custom episodes is also a letdown. Yes, I understand the risks of the internet, but they've already created battles where sentences are used to make things seem inappropriate. You can't stop that.
- I haven’t even started talking about balance yet. I don’t mind Gogeta SSJ4 picking on Krillin, but the fact that I have to "break the game mechanics" just to maybe dodge an unblockable ultimate is ridiculous. Imagine playing FIFA/NBA, and there’s a player who scores every time they shoot, no matter the situation.
- User experience-wise, the first time going through the menu was cool, but now I’d like the option to turn that off and have every menu item on one screen. There’s too much going on with every click, yet not much happening. Does anyone actually believe that if Instagram or TikTok made you endure an animation every time you swipe, people would still enjoy it? The reason people swipe so much is because it’s seamless.
- Expecting after all this for people to pay 30$ for music as well? Just greedy.
This game has potential, but it isn’t being utilized. After all the games before it, from which Bandai hasn’t learned or seemingly doesn’t care, this could be one of the best—if not the best—anime games, and potentially one of the best fighting games. But at this moment, I don’t see that happening.
The only hope right now is the modders, but they can’t fix servers, rage quits, or provide quick casual play.
TL;DR: Nothing works properly.
