Revisiting Old Mechanics: Improving Dragon Ball Games Without Losing Their Essence

Hello everyone, I just wanted to share some thoughts as a fan regarding certain game mechanics that don’t make much sense to me.

Just because a game is based on Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 doesn’t mean it should carry over the broken mechanics from that era. The idea that features like unblockable ultimates or "infinite" vanishes should remain simply because they were part of BT3 is flawed. Just because something existed in the past doesn’t mean it was necessarily fun or healthy for the game.

For example, I don’t mind that Jiren is strong in Dragon Ball, but not being able to block his ultimate just isn’t fun. Likewise, characters like Yajirobe spamming Senzu Beans or constantly using afterimage moves can be frustrating. The game doesn’t have to be perfectly balanced, but some of these things are outright broken, and they make it hard for people to enjoy the game the way it’s meant to be played.

Watching the top 8 in a Dragon Ball tournament where players just stack healing to stall out matches isn’t entertaining either. I’ve played Budokai Tenkaichi 1-3, and while I love those games, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t change anything about them. Back on the PS2, you couldn’t download patches to fix issues, but now, games can be enhanced to be better and healthier.

There’s definitely a way to make the game more enjoyable without losing its core appeal.
