Skiboards to Skiing (ski size/style)
I’m a longtime skiboarder (short skis—hate on!) riding on skiboards that are 104cm with a profile of 130/106/130. They are center mounted.
I love skiboarding especially short tight carving turns, hitting small jumps, no poles, and super maneuverability. I can comfortably ride and carve blues and blacks. But, they are admittedly terrible at medium to high speeds and anything off piste (esp powder and lord knows I’ve tried). They also encourage a backseat riding style. And I’m getting a little bored by their limitations.
I just moved to central Oregon and I think I’m ready to bump up to “regular” skis this season for skiing Mt. Bachelor—I anticipate being able to get in 50 days this year. But I’m not sure what size/style to target for the skis. I’m 6’ 185lbs. I worry I’ll have a hard adjustment to something like a 185cm all-mountain ski. I’m wondering if a compromise might be to try to find something shorter (maybe 170ish), wider, and center mounted? My goals are fairly modest. I’d like to ski the whole mountain competently, but relaxed. Don’t want to charge or throw big tricks in the park.
Any suggestions?
