Opposition parties need to change their strategies

I’m genuinely puzzled as to why opposition parties, despite being aware of gerrymandering for decades, haven’t made more of an effort to expand their outreach when they’ve had the opportunity.

Why continue focusing on the same area, year after year, just having meetups with the same residents?

Take Chee Soon Juan, for example. He’s been contesting in Bukit Batok since the 1990s, but now that the SMC is gone, all that effort seems to have gone to waste.

Even the PSP, who raised concerns about gerrymandering in Parliament, ended up sticking to West Coast, hoping for some kind of miracle.

It doesn’t make sense.

They knew about the problem, yet didn’t seem to adapt their strategy.

At the very least, they could have held regular meetups across Singapore, engaging with a wider group of people. With Facebook’s event feature, they could have organized these gatherings, connecting with more Singaporeans and getting a clearer picture of where their support base actually lies - by seeing which areas had the highest turnout.

My advice to opposition parties would be to focus on uninformed voters. A straightforward way to spot them is by asking one simple question: What do you know about gerrymandering?

Those who haven't heard of that word are the ones you need to work on because they are likely to be gullible, the kind who are easily swayed by CDC vouchers.

Best of luck!
