Issue with iMark’s choice I don’t see people discussing yet

I understand that iMark is choosing himself for once. He doesn’t know his future but he wants it to be with Helly (and the other innies there too). I don’t think he’s selfish for choosing himself over oMark. What I do take some issue with, and I wish oMark had pushed in their conversation, is that their best chance at stopping Lumon was ensuring Gemma got out safely. Gemma and Mark’s experience could be what brings down Lumon. iMark didn’t stick around at the cabin to decide on a final game plan (I get that he was upset, but he could’ve gotten more info, it was his only chance to talk with them). He has no idea what Gemma is walking out to in that stairwell. She doesn’t have a car or home and may not even know where she is. It’s like saving a rabbit from a testing facility only to toss it into a jungle and say “good luck surviving.” He doesn’t know why Cobel wants to “save” Gemma or what her plan is.

iMark, iDylan, Helly, and all the other innies, are there as a result of their outies choosing to sever. They consented. However, Gemma is there (seemingly) against her will. She’s not allowed to leave and they’ve severed her into 25 pieces. They’ve been torturing her for a long time. Ms. Casey told iMark her best moment was being awake all day in iMark’s office. Her favorite moment was a normal day for iMark, being allowed to simply exist around people without following a weird script, something he took for granted.

If they cannot stop Lumon, they are enabling Lumon to continue to do this to people. They faked Gemma’s death, held her against her will, and everyone that cares about her thought she was dead. It’s an insane human rights issue that is so much bigger than a (selfish) decision to sever yourself and accidentally create a trapped person. If they can do this to Gemma, they can do it to anyone whenever they want. They saw proof that Lumon hires CHILDREN. They don’t know if she’s there of her own free will but they all do seem to know there’s something wrong with child labor.

How do they stop Lumon if they stay at Lumon?

And hey, maybe the innies have a plan. Maybe Helly uses Jame’s affinity for her to try to leverage more rights for innies. I don’t know. But iMark didn’t know that when he made his choice.

Love is important. Self is important. Friendship is important. But choosing that at the expense of doing everything you can to stop serious human rights violations? I don’t know about that. I’m not saying I think he’s outright wrong on a moral perspective. It’s not for me to judge. But I don’t know that I could live with myself if I made that choice.
