My biggest question / issue with finale: ___ ____ was kind of a letdown? Or is more info coming?

First off, loved the episode. And I really really liked Season 2.

My biggest question / issue was with Cold Harbor. So it turned out to be just one more 'severance barrier' test? We already saw many of these tests in S2E7 ... I get that this one was the "biggest / toughest" test. But isn't it a huge letdown to have the thing they built up all season be just a slightly modified version of something we've already seen?

And how is this "the biggest event in the history of the planet" and such a massive milestone for Lumon? Severance, as a thing, has existed in the world for over a decade ... and people assume that the barrier holds. And Lumon's other tests have shown the barrier holds. So why is this extra confirmation so special?

And finally, we didn't learn anything about why Gemma was critical for this, or what her special role was. Aside from having a kidnapped person to do tests on, and a spouse to do the MDR work, not much was really revealed.

Unless we learn more in S3, I'm pretty let down by Cold Harbor, given how much it had been built up. Was basically the exact same stuff as Chikhai Bardo.
