Bregman thoughts
I think Bregman would bring a lot to the table and would make us better immediately for a number of reasons. What we’re not talking about enough though is that we can’t reasonably do this without making a pretty significant countermove. When campbell and anthony are called up, which should, and probably will happen soon, we’re going to have players riding the bench who shouldn’t be riding the bench. Between Rafaela, wilyer, Roman, and Duran, one will be forced out of the lineup on a regular basis. If we sign Bregman and he plays second, then Campbell gets added to that group, and we would have two valuable players riding the bench on a daily basis. This isn’t even factoring in Grissom and mayer, both of whom the organization apparently value. Mayers only path to play right now is if story is out long term, assuming they don’t just put Rafaela back there. Grissom could start the year at second, but he’s not gonna be there long or have the chance to prove his value if Campbell is as good as everyone thinks he is. Thats also not factoring in Bregman.
So Im all for signing Bregman but I dont see how they go through with it without moving someone else. If we don’t sign Bregman I actually think the reason will be that they didn’t want to end up in this situation, and not because of the money. Basically Im equally scared that our front office won’t figure out how to restructure our roster to make room for the prospects as I am about them not spending big. There’s not an easy fix here but they could end up having too much depth, a rare but real problem in my opinion. Has this been stressing anyone else out.
