SPL homelessness
Im at the Capitol Hill Library working on school work and the entire library is filled with unhoused people. I am really conflicted because I want to have a comfortable place to study, read, and not have to pay for - and everyone deserves that, too.
I am just wondering what the hell Seattle is doing to provide shelter and security for homeless people. Why is it that they overflow into other free spaces like the library to have shelter from the rain and cold? Why can't the city provide lockers for people to store their things? This is not a question of how to get rid of homeless people in libraries. It’s mores to do with how can we lift the burden of certain things like offering security for peoples’ personal items, and just better support outside of libraries.
Public libraries are so important, but their roles are not to provide shelter for people. Seattle is failing their community by depending on libraries for social work.
What is the solution?
Edit: i edited the wording because some of yall are mad about semantics and spelling, which is external to the actual content of what I said.
