Unpopular opinion I had to DNF The Fourth Wing for being too cliche

I started reading The Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros about a year ago. I made it past the whole “challenged body” being “small”, “weak”, having abnormalities. I mean Violet had to have some kind of quirk to be a main character. I got past the general for a mother and being forced into something she didn’t want to do. The story had to have a plot. But the whole I’m too weak for anything and my intellect and knowledge is going to get me through, to even the getting two dragons because even though the main character knows she’s supposedly too weak to defend herself, without using basically poison she puts her self at risk as the hero, and then is rewarded for it with two dragons. Who just so happens to be connected to dun dun dun… the sexy tall dark and mysterious guy who oh wait is her enemy.

Now I’m all for enemies to lovers, in fact it’s my favourite trope but this book was just cliche after cliche and I just couldn’t continue reading it without cringing every couple of pages.

It’s like violet doesn’t even actively try to have some sort of fight or flight. She isn’t even rolling with the punches. Everything gets handed to her and even her “training ark” is given to her by her enemy so he “doesn’t go down with her being weak”

My friends keep telling me to finish it as the second book is apparently better and Violet goes through a whole character development but I don’t know… should I just finish it 😂

Just a quick side note: To those spamming about being an ableist because I defined a character as having a quirk or following a weak and vulnerable trope… grow up. If you’re mad about the word abnormalities again look it up. The girl can flex her bones in weird ways. Thats an abnormality for a human due to her condition. Also the book only strongly suggests that Violet has EDS. Am I meant to watch a Rebecca Yarros interview after I stopped reading the book? So for you try hard, die hard fans who clearly glossed over my DNF… try again.
