King Harald Bluetooth & Bluetooth tech spelling changed
So I’m really confused. I remember finding out several years back that bluetooth (the wireless technology) was named after King Bluetooth. I thought this was interesting and figured they changed the spelling a bit bc at that time (in my reality or whatever) the tech was spelled Blutooth. I distinctly remember looking it up and the king’s name was spelled Blutooth.
I remember this bc it made zero sense to me. The history of the name is that it actually translates from the original nickname that was given to him, which meant blue/dark tooth. I had read this at that point and thought YTF would they spell it weird? Why wouldn’t his name be translated as the spelling of the two words it translated into?
As of probably 3 years ago, my phone started correcting Blutooth to Bluetooth. I figured it was just something stupid, but definitely noticed it and was aggravated that it kept changing my spelling. I got over it after awhile bc tech is amazing, even with its downfalls. Autocorrect likely saves my ass more than it screws with what I’m saying.
Fast forward to today. I was looking up some info about if WiFi routers interfere with Bluetooth and found it to be spelled Bluetooth. This is the first realization that I had that maybe it wasn’t just my phone acting weird. I looked up the danish king and found that history now claims it’s spelled Bluetooth.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I appreciate that the spelling now makes sense. But what happened to King Blutooth and Blutooth tech? Does anyone else remember this?
