Surgical residents- post op order entry for uncovered cases?
Question for surgery/surgical subspecialty residents. At my program, we routinely have many cases go uncovered due to not having enough residents. For the uncovered cases, residents are still expected to place PACU orders, post op instructions, and discharge orders. Sometimes, attendings even ask us to come into their rooms while the patient is being extubated and to help transport the patient to PACU
Is this normal? It’s all I know so it feels normal to me… but after randomly bringing this up with a resident at a different program, I have a feeling it may not be the case everywhere
We do not have a PA
Edit: for clarification, I’m talking about ambulatory procedures.
