What do you actually message to the person hiring on LinkedIn!

I’ve been looking for my first professional job out of university, and I found a job that I’m interested in and seem to be qualified for. I’ve already applied, and I added the person hiring for the position on LinkedIn and she connected with me. I’m seeing very conflicting advice on messaging the hiring manager on LinkedIn; some say to always add them and reach out and others say to never do that. However, it seems that in general most say to send them a message, but I can’t find anything on what exactly to send them and again it’s conflicting since some say to send a short note while others say to introduce yourself and your qualifications/experience. Does anyone who has experience hiring people have any solid advice of what to actually message them?

I was thinking something like this:

“Hi [NAME],

Thanks for connecting with me. I’m just reaching out because I applied for the [POSITION NAME] at [ORGANIZATION], and it seems to be a very interesting opportunity that resonates with me and aligns with my education. If you have the time to discuss this position further, I’d welcome the opportunity to learn more about it.

Thanks,

[MY NAME]”
