Do evil people know they're evil?

Wondering about this. I'm guided by my personal sense of "right" and "wrong", based on my culture and life experiences. We'd probably call that my conscience. Do evil people have a conscience and they just ignore it and don't care, or are they totally oblivious to the effect of their actions?
