Application status says “candidate withdrew”

I recently talked to a recruiter about a position I applied for. He said he thought I had a really good chance, and I should be hearing from the hiring manager soon. He said if I didn’t hear from the hiring manager in x amount of days, to contact him and he would give them a nudge.

That time period of when I should be hearing back hasn’t expired yet, but I noticed the job I applied for was reposted. When I check my application status, it says “candidate withdrew”. I never got contacted by anyone, and I didn’t withdraw my application. Isn’t this status different than an outright denial? I’m not really sure what happened….
