Emily Dickinson recs? (PhD) [OPINION] [HELP]
Hey folks,
I'm expecting to start a PhD program for 19th century American literature soon and want to get started on the basics for the reading. Only one of the programs I applied to has a departmental reading list published online, and it lists Emily Dickinson but then says "selected poems."
I've read maybe three or four of her poems. Definitely "Because I could not stop for Death", "I heard a fly buzz when I died", and "I'm Nobody. Who are you?" Probably another one I'm not thinking of.
I am assuming 20-30 poems would be sufficient (although if you had to read Dickinson for your own comprehensive exams, please do correct me if this number seems too low).
Anyways, so my question to you all is . . . what are the essential poems I should read?
